New plan....So many choices, so much to do. Well, it's a new year and I have some big decisions to make. What is my plan for Superchica? Frankly, I'm not 100% sure yet. I do know that I'm going to pare down my stock and focus more on certain items. I've also considered making things less complicated and creating my work from fewer mediums. Not everything has to be ceramic, fiber, paint and wire work Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-82755348722876826692009-09-15T12:42:00.000-07:002009-09-15T13:02:18.648-07:00New stamps and More!September has already proven to be a crazy busy month and now that I know I'm doing 3 shows this season, there is no time to waste! Each day I try to spend at least 5 hours crafting and brainstorming. So, today I finally sat down to carve a few new stamps to use on bags and cuffs etc. I absolutely love printing a stamp for the first time. Seeing the final image is really satisfying. I put any skepticism I had aside and simply enjoyed the anticipation as the premiere date came closer and closer. They definitely made the transition easier by giving us a one hour special "Project Runway All Stars". We were able to see something new in the NY setting and see Heidi in Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-65675177021439956012009-08-18T11:45:00.000-07:002009-08-18T11:57:22.816-07:00PlaytimeI'm having a bit of fun with my newest little gadget. A dear friend of mine received a Cricut Expression for her birthday and because she's so incredibly awesome, she decided to give me her old one. It's really in mint condition and feels new to me.Today was the first day I started playing with it and I'm surprised at how fun it really is. Watching the little blade cut the paper is kind cool Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-8289610667219427002009-08-06T08:01:00.000-07:002009-08-06T08:17:24.521-07:00Labels and DisplaysFor the most part I make my own displays. The Superchica display system has been built by using a combination of recycled items and wood scraps. Ha. Yes. It sounds pretty crafty doesn't it? When I say Handmade I guess I really, really mean it. Thankfully, the local thrift stores and various estate sales have helped me find good foundational pieces over the years. My display storage area is Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-9084109574218502082009-08-03T21:15:00.000-07:002009-08-03T21:21:40.317-07:00Inside My Studio.Well hey there! Tonight it seemed like a great idea to make a short video for you, so that you could tour my work space. I make this little studio work hard for me and use every square inch to store my supplies and work. Welcome to Superchica HQ :)Take a look.....Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-90504037772814563562009-07-21T12:44:00.000-07:002009-07-21T19:45:05.690-07:00Getting by.The economy these days is tough. I'm sure you know that. Everyone is making changes to their budget and tightening their belts. Yes, that's very true and it means different things to different people. So how do you live and spend less? Various conversations I've had and stories I've heard give me the impression that many people don't really know how to live frugally. I'm often surprised to Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-37267462493782542922009-07-08T09:45:00.000-07:002015-07-08T11:21:13.086-07:00The Unexpected.Today is the day that I climb out of my shell and finally write a new blog. The last few months have been very strange and sometimes scary, but as of this day it's all okay. Many people have asked me about what happened but I haven't been able to really communicate it in detail until now. Let me tell you about my journey and why I've been gone for so long.
It started in April. I felt a Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-28602413658786155452009-03-17T11:23:00.001-07:002009-03-17T11:29:14.179-07:00Day of the NewWell, I sat down at the sewing machine and Poof! I had an idea. So... here is the newest Superchica design. This first headband took nearly an hour to create, but that's common for new designs. I should be able to do a little better next time. What do you think? It's a thin stretchy band with my "Floral Featurette" attached to the side. The base is pleated and sewn with an orange contrast Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-39509052333529177732009-03-17T08:58:00.000-07:002009-03-17T09:17:26.941-07:00Building It By HandAs the dogs whiz up and down the hall, chasing each other, I'm taking the time to share with you the latest in Superchica's design process. It's clay time! Yes, yesterday I had a clay day. Which basically means I spend the whole day cutting, rolling, pounding, shaping and smoothing clay. It's a tough job, but it's also fun and I get to play around with lots of ideas. Right now, I'm working on Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-48554858370356391012009-02-02T10:44:00.000-08:002009-02-02T11:49:53.523-08:00What's with Dallas? This blog is an answer to Amanda, who is struggling with the Dallas culture like so many of us are.I know how you feel. Dallas is a strange city. There isn't really much to do with the exception of shopping and eating. We seem to have more than our share of chains and "cookie cutter" stores and shops. Everyone is content to shop at the Gap and eat at McDonalds 3 times week. It's not good.Have Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-22922369590038331542008-12-06T08:50:00.001-08:002008-12-06T08:51:17.810-08:00Giving. Helping. Changing. This year let's make a difference by changing someone's world for the better. Here's a great way to get started. This is a wonderful and short video to lead the way.....Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-25882084737476253272008-11-24T13:50:00.000-08:002008-11-24T14:01:10.324-08:00The Dark Side of TechnologyYarsh! You're probably wondering why my website hasn't been updated since last week. You may also we wondering why my Etsy page was empty the last time you visited. I promise you I'm working to remedy that and here's why..... Last week our computer hard drive crashed. BIG TIME! We lost tons of pics and worst of all I lost my website files. So, I've got to redesign my site and the DCM site Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-51698413868653242782008-11-11T14:21:00.000-08:002008-11-11T15:10:40.378-08:00Girlie Show 2008What a fantastic weekend we had!!!! It really was perfect from beginning to end. Let me tell you all about it......We left for OKC in the early day and really had an nice drive and enjoyed the weather and the music and especially the Carl's Jr. that we picked up along the way. I swear they have the best fast-food chicken sandwich. Yum. We arrived at the Public Farmers market building, which Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-1901802879980364552008-11-11T13:38:00.000-08:002008-11-11T14:20:26.263-08:00Adios mi amiga.Well, the news is grim. Cuquita's, a legendary Dallas eatery has given up it's original location. I having been eating at Cuquita's for nearly 20 years and I can remember when it was just a small house with 10 tables. My mother introduced me to their authentic Mexican cuisine and I have always associated Cuquita's with comfort and home. Like no other, Cuquita's created a menu rich with Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-80999417862110436252008-10-28T09:48:00.000-07:002008-10-28T10:14:48.594-07:00This is an interesting and fun idea. I was inspired to do it by Martha and she was inspired by other bloggers. I changed the order up just a little bit, but it's the same concept. So here it goes... Answer the questions below, do a Google Image search with your answer, take a picture from the first page of results, post it to your blog with little or no description added.1. Age you'll be on Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-57879286956144107162008-10-15T18:59:00.000-07:002008-10-15T19:12:58.752-07:00Bazaar musings.Last weekend I was able to be a part of the Urban Street Bazaar that took place in Oak Cliff in the Bishop Arts District. The weather was just perfect and we had a huge turnout. Overall the day was really fantastic. Kent and I even brought our Scrabble game and managed to sneak in a match during the afternoon. I met lots of new people and had a wonderful reunion with an old friend. The day Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-12608308240473353172008-09-21T17:52:00.000-07:002008-09-21T18:22:56.529-07:00Jennifer Perkins was here. So, Saturday had a bit of excitement built into it. Yes, a very cool thing happened and I just have to share it with you. Jennifer Perkins of the famous Naughty Secretary Club was in Dallas teaching a class at Make studio. I had the privelege of getting to meet her and hang out for a bit. She is of course the reason that I ever had the courage to step out on my own and start a crafting Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-15940897744378075262008-09-18T11:43:00.000-07:002008-09-18T12:03:28.835-07:00I'm stressin'Well, it's not all that bad. September usually gets kinda crazy for me and all the other crafting chicas out there. This year I'm doing a half dozen shows before Christmas, so be sure to check my shows and events page for updates and specific info.In the next 2 weeks I really need to amp up and create new work for The Urban Bazaar, Etsy and other stores that currently carry Superchica goodies.Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-79646751130929258292008-09-04T13:29:00.001-07:002008-09-04T13:48:35.147-07:00Rotary WarsOh man. I really did it this time. One of my favorite sewing tools, that I often say I can't live without is a rotary cutter. Just in case you don't know, it's like a pizza cutter, but the round cutting blade is as sharp as a razor, maybe sharper. I'm always careful when I use it. Well, almost always. Yesterday I was working in my studio, sewing and altering a cuff. While I was cutting Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-54716360287501988722008-08-27T14:58:00.000-07:002008-08-27T15:27:11.914-07:00Project Runway, naps and more.Feeling better and ready to start going again. I'm writing while my whole pack of animals sleeps soundly, which is unusual for the middle of the afternoon when I'm home and working. They love to bring me toys and ask for hugs and stomp on my keyboard. On some days it's cute and other days it's frustrating, but for some reason, today they're sleepy and I'm free to type away.So what do you thinkJudyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-81949839684158545632008-08-23T20:59:00.001-07:002008-08-23T21:05:57.128-07:00Laugh about it.Alright, so I'm sick at home and little bit miserable. So, of course I turn to the internet to entertain me and what do I find? I found this page called YearbookYourself.com. It's crazy. You upload a picture of yourself in B/W and it automatically puts your face into a yearbook photo. You can choose 1950-2000. Some of them were too hideous to imagine and some were just hilarious. I made a Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-19480735495054478582008-08-19T12:57:00.000-07:002008-08-19T13:32:36.037-07:00Post Pony PostAaaaaaahhhh. Yes, it's over. The Shop Pony Show is in the past, but it has left me with good memories. Truly, this was my first "big" show since NY in December. The experience has left me feeling energized about my work and ready to go forward. There was some really cool stuff at the show. Really, I had to hold back from buying to save my budget. I did score some extremely yummy candles Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-70482661134191549402008-08-12T15:49:00.000-07:002008-08-12T15:52:29.187-07:00Oh, and this too!So, I also wanted to say that I have been really working to fill my etsy page. I've also been shopping etsy lately and doing a daily "pounce". Please take a minute to visit my etsy page and maybe even *heart* me. http://www.superchica.etsy.comJudyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36508413.post-81331168514086894242008-08-12T14:24:00.001-07:002008-08-12T14:24:51.483-07:00My August. It has been a while since my last post and I have a lot to catch up on. First of all, you probably noticed that I totally re-vamped my website. I thought it was time to simplify my look and hopefully it's easy to use. Secondly, I've really changed my work and have focused almost entirely on fabric arts. Ceramics will still be in my collection, but only during the holidays. For now, I'm Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07419692667741979170noreply@blogger.com0
